Meet Dr. Sotomayor MD

Certified plasmalogen and CIRS specialist

Dr. Sotomayor is both a physician and regenerative farmer whose path to medicine has been profoundly shaped by personal illness, healing, and a deep reverence for the natural world. A native of the Chicagoland area, he first discovered his passion for human health while studying Integrative Physiology at the University of Iowa. He went on to earn his medical degree from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine, where he began cultivating a holistic approach to care by focusing on “treating the human spirit.” He later specialized in critical care, completing his Emergency Medicine residency at Resurrection Medical Center.

Dr. Sotomayor began his clinical career in Northwest Indiana, caring for critically ill patients in underserved communities. Early into his work, however, he was confronted with a life-altering illness that would transform both his personal journey and professional path. After a year-long search for answers, he was diagnosed with Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS). Determined to understand the deeper drivers of chronic illness, he immersed himself in the study of inflammation, immune dysfunction, nervous system degeneration, and the body’s innate ability to regenerate.

This journey opened his eyes to how widespread and often overlooked conditions like CIRS are within the healthcare system. He saw firsthand how many patients fall through the cracks, and how essential it is to have providers who can see and treat the whole picture. Dr. Sotomayor became a CIRS certified physician, Prodrome Certified Practitioner, and Walsh Protocol provider expanding his expertise in chronic inflammation, neurodegenerative diseases, and nutrient based mental health.

In pursuit of deeper alignment between his medical practice and personal values, Dr. Sotomayor relocated to the Driftless region, where he and his fiancée founded New Earth Farm, a regenerative biodynamic farm built on the principles of soil health, biodiversity, and ecological stewardship. Alongside his work on the land, he continues to serve his community in the emergency room, bringing a renewed perspective shaped by his lived experience with CIRS.

Dr. Sotomayor is the founder of Nuerth (New-earth) Medicine, a practice dedicated to providing specialized care for patients with CIRS, neurodegenerative illnesses, and brain mental health. Through Nuerth Medicine, Dr. Sotomayor is committed to treating his patients by identifying root causes, cultivating vitality, and restoring harmony to the whole system. His approach to medicine mirrors his philosophy as a regenerative farmer: true healing begins at the root. Just as the most fruitful plants grow in soil rich in micronutrients, resilient health arises from a foundation that is appropriately nourished. Dr. Sotomayor believes that when we honor the natural laws that govern both ecosystems and human physiology, we unlock the potential for true regenerative health.
